Hospital 

The Hospital is situated in the centre of Riyadh, close to the King Saud University Campus. It is an affiliated teaching hospital for the university medical school and was founded in 1982. It is classified as a general and subspecialty hospital. It is one of the 5 tertiary referral hospitals in Riyadh with over 1000 beds. 



The hospital provides both primary and secondary care services for Saudi patients from the Northern Riyadh area. It also provides tertiary care services to all Saudi citizens on referral basis. Medicine including Oncology haematology Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency, Ob/ Gyn.



Description 

Nurse Educator



Organizational Relationship:

Reports to: ADON Education

Coordinates with: Nursing staff in assigned units and nursing students/ Interns

Liases with: ADONs, HNs, Nurse Educators, Infection Control team, Nursing Colleges instructors 



Job Summary:

* In accordance with the philosophy of the Nursing Department and the policy and procedure of the hospital. The Nurse Educator is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for nursing staff, emphasizing the requirements for cultural awareness

* Assists faculty and students from King Saud University Colleges to gain required experience and fosters good relationships with them



Duties and Responsibilities:

Philosophy

* Support philosophy, objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nursing Department

* Interprets the philosophy, objectives, and policies the hospital, the Nursing department and unit to staff, patients, allied health care personnel and significant others.

* Coordinates the formulation /review, implementation and evaluation of the philosophy, objectives and policies of his/her area of responsibility



Assessment

* Collaborates with Associate Directors of Nursing, Head Nurses and peer group to assess learning needs of nursing staff.

* Participates in the development of educational assessment skills.

* Takes responsibility for conducting educational tests to assess credentials, for example: Annual Assessment of knowledge and competencies and Local recruitment testing as required.

* Conduct other educational assessments as required



Planning/ Organization

* Identifies present and potential needs of the unit.

* Develops strategies/proposals to meet identified needs.

* Recommends strategies/proposals to resolve problems to the ADON for the service area.

* Identifies capital equipment and operating needs for the unit.

* Plans clinical experiences for students in consultation with the ADON for the assigned Service Area and Nurse Educators

* Creates an environment necessary for constructive changes to occur.

* Creates an environment in which the patient care team work cooperates toward objectives



Personnel

* Provides input into the determination of staffing needs for the unit, including number of positions, scope and responsibilities of positions.

* Participates in interviewing of staff and reviewing of applicants, and recommends selection, promotion, or dismissal.

* Provides unit orientation for new staff.

* Completes performance evaluations for assigned staff according to the Nursing department and KKUH policies

* Plans and participates in unit staff development program.

* Fosters staff participation in research and continuing education.



Educational Interventions

* Uses the teaching principles of adult education in classroom and clinical setting.

* Understands and implements the concepts of transcultural nursing in classroom and clinical settings.

* Ensures that teaching conforms to the approved Policies and Procedures of KKUH

* Participates in the circulation of new staff in the Department of Nursing and follows up in the clinical setting.

* Participates in the education of students during clinical placements for Nursing and other professions, when required.

* Receives Educational Referrals and takes appropriate action, documenting interventions and outcomes.



Evaluation and Monitoring

* Uses appropriate tools to evaluate the effectiveness of educational activities.

* Evaluates nursing staff performance in areas as required for credentialing and other purposes.

* Keeps records of attendance, subjects taught and evaluates educational sessions given and records the data gathered 



Communication

* Participates in committees, task forces, meetings and activities that enhances Nursing Staff development and improvement in patient care.

* Recognizes the need for and promotes collaboration among and between a multinational nursing workforce and other members of the Health Care Team.



Self Development

* Works with Associate Directors of Nursing and Head Nurses in collaborating on projects relating to monitoring and improving patient care.

* Maintains personal and professional development through continuing professional development programmes and other activities, such as acting for the Associate Director of Nursing Education.

* Performs other assignments as requested by the Associate Director of Nursing Education 



Quality Assurance

* Is responsible for the development and implementation of her/his assigned unit's quality improvement program, which conforms with that of the overall department's program.

* Monitors the economical and effective use of resources at unit level.

* Works with unit staff in the development of objectives and standards to meet unit goals and resolve problems.

* Works with unit staff in the initiation of actions to achieve set objectives.

* Works closely with other departments to cooperatively achieve objectives as required.

* Provides regular reports on the achievement of set objectives.

* Maintains and monitors required records, reports, documentation.

* Maintains and monitors equipment and supplies.

* Communicates changes in policy/procedures and other appropriate communication to staff and provides feedback from staff to Nursing administration



Research

* Identifies Nursing unit issues/problems, which require nursing research.

* Provides input into the development of research projects to investigate identified issues/problems.

* Supports data collection process on her/his nursing unit to resolve identified issues/problems.

* In consultation with ADON of assigned area, reviews findings of research studies and develops a plan to implement recommendations to resolve issues/problems.

* Prepares reports for ADON of assigned area on success of resolution of issues/problems

Skills:

* Bachelor Degree/Master Degree in Nursing or Education & Development or equivalent 
* Current Professional Nurse Registration in Country of Origin

Working Experience: 
* 5 years post graduate clinical experience 
* 2 years clinical teaching experience in nursing
* Experience of developing and implementing research objectives, projects and proposals and presenting work of conference and other Breadth of specialist knowledge in the clinical specialty to develop teaching and research programs. 
* Understanding of different teaching and learning methodologies
* Problem solving and organizational skills 
* Well-developed oral and written communication skills
* Computer Literate 
* Ability to develop and foster student learning skills
* Ability to lecture and conduct seminars clearly and effectively
